The first tab in your PVCAD (Mega) Window is the AI tab. Simply type a question or a direction into the dialogue (or select a sample question from our drop down) and capture the power of AI in your design by clicking SEND.

The PVComplete AI Assistant is an intelligent design tool embedded within PVCAD and AutoCAD that empowers solar professionals to dramatically accelerate and improve the design, analysis, and permitting of photovoltaic (PV) systems. Designed to support users across experience levels, the AI acts as a real-time assistant capable of interpreting design intent, enforcing engineering standards, and guiding decision-making from early concept through final plan set.

  1. Conversational Design Interaction – The PVComplete AI allows users to interact with their solar design workflows using natural language. You can ask the AI virtually any question related to solar design, code compliance, or software functionality, and it will respond with relevant, technically informed guidance. Whether you’re looking for NEC stringing rules, site layout best practices, or specific PVCAD commands, the AI provides clear, actionable answers in real time.
  2. Automated Design Execution – Beyond providing information, the AI assistant can also direct PVCAD and AutoCAD to perform design tasks on your behalf. Users can initiate layout generation, perform stringing, or automate electrical calculations by simply describing the desired outcome. The AI interprets system parameters, site constraints, and design targets to generate optimized, construction-ready layouts with minimal user input.
  3. Design Auditing and Quality Control – The AI assistant can review existing plans and flag potential issues related to code compliance, performance inefficiencies, or design irregularities. It acts as a second set of expert eyes—cross-referencing your drawings against applicable standards, such as NEC Article 690, AHJ-specific permitting guidelines, or internal design templates.
  4. Standards and Policy Reference – Built with extensive knowledge of industry codes, jurisdictional permitting policies, and solar design norms, the AI assistant can interpret local or national requirements and recommend compliant solutions. It provides jurisdiction-specific guidance where applicable and ensures designs adhere to the latest regulatory frameworks.

  6. Data Privacy and Security- All project information shared with the PVComplete AI assistant is fully anonymized and processed with strict confidentiality controls. No identifying information is stored, and all inputs and outputs are securely handled to ensure compliance with corporate data protection policies.

The AI interprets site constraints, design targets, and engineering standards to produce efficient, construction-ready layouts. All project data shared is fully anonymized to ensure the confidentiality and security of your information. To use AI follow the below steps:

  1. Select the data you want to share with AI in the Refine data shared with AI, you can choose to share or limit the following data with our AI
    • Project  (production, project design, etc.)
    • Roof (location, roof outline)
    • Obstructions (drawn obstructions, trees)
    • Topography (geographical features, location)
    • Drawing properties (metadata and stored information)
  2. If you have updated your design, select Refresh data shared with AI
    • This will make sure that any new questions you are asking the AI will refer to your latest design
  3. Type anything into the dialogue box OR select from prompt from dropdown menu and click SEND
    • Observe the responses display in the conversation bar and see all history in the conversation bar

    The AI responds with voltage and temperature-adjusted limits and suggests optimal stringing.

  • An engineer says: “Draw the roofline for the address located at the address provided.”

  • A permit specialist asks: “Does this design meet fire setback rules for California?”
    The AI checks array spacing against local code references and provides a pass/fail result with explanation.
